North American Vexillological Association, NAVA, 42nd Annual Meeting. Like what you see? Don't miss our next meeting. Visit http://www.nava.org so you don't make the same mistake I did by missing 17 years of meetings before finally attending the last four. http://www.flagguys.com

Al Cavalari (theflagguys) > I was impressed with how Texans use their state house and at how accessible it is to them. It is open until 10 o'clock at night! I had to see that for myself and went there at 9:45. This shot was taken then. Sure enought there were people milling about just looking at it. It is a very attractive building and very pleasant to stroll around it. The grounds are open 24 hours a day.
Al Cavalari (theflagguys) > Just be careful. It is a long way down and they assume you are a responsible adult. The railing is barely waste high.
Al Cavalari (theflagguys) > Hang on to your little kids. Don't let go of their hand. Don't let them wander out of your site or anywhere near the railing. There is a gap of about 18 inches between those ballisters.
Al Cavalari (theflagguys) > Here is at once another nice example of how they use the halls for valuable gallery space and of the pride they take in their state house. Plus this is maybe the cleanest public place I have ever seen. The capitol underwent a major construction and renovation project about ten years ago. Down this hallway is a commemoration of each subcontractor and each person who worked on it.
Al Cavalari (theflagguys) > Professionally framed is a shot of that crew, of their job in progress and a caption describing their work. This hallway is a worthwhile photography exhibition in its own right.
Al Cavalari (theflagguys) > "Windows & More. In preparation for the return of hundreds of state employees to their offices, this subcontractor cleaned and polished every surface in every space in the capitol" I wonder how you quote a price for a job like that.
Al Cavalari (theflagguys) > Of course the most central feature of the Texas flag is the great lone star. Texans put that star everywhere.

Al Cavalari (theflagguys) > I've lived in New York State my entire life and I have never seen our state flag displayed with this kind of enthusiasm. I drove hundreds of miles around Texas and frequently saw displays like this one. Maybe it is a bit harder to be enthusiastic about a state flag such as ours that is nothing more than a bureaucratic seal. As well, the NY flag is hard to distinguish from that of a dozen other states. It seems that Texas is indeed a state of mind. I had a wonderful six days in our great Lone Star sister state and am grateful to all you Texans who helped me along my way. I plan on coming back again when the LBJ ranch has completed making the main house completely accessible for visitors. The park service has only just opened up the first room to visitors so I will need to come back and see the rest one day.
